Text messaging between pilots and air traffic control is now possible with Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC). CPDLC Departure Clearance (DCL) procedures allow ATC to approve and send departure clearances using digital communications rather than voice communications at many larger and busy airports, increasing efficiency and saving 10-15 minutes on every departure.
Developed in compliance with DO-178B Level C guidelines and FANS 1/A standards, the UniLink™ UL-800 and UL-801 Communication Management Unit (CMU) accommodates the expansion of data link services into streamlined applications of airline and air traffic operations such as CPDLC and ADS-B.
